School Partnerships
Step Into Art programs reach hundreds of Boston children each year through partnerships with schools all across the city. We partner with six Boston Public Schools to offer a rich array of learning experiences for third-grade students featuring art from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. We have also developed signature third-grade programs focused on individual contemporary artists, most recently Bisa Butler. Alongside our programs for third graders, we have built a unique, longstanding sixth-grade partnership program with Mother Caroline Academy in Dorchester. This program introduces students to portraiture – traditionally at the Harvard Art Museums – and emphasizes an in-depth yearlong studio project and culminating exhibition. Since 2023, our sixth-grade program has drawn inspiration from contemporary textile artist Gio Swaby. With both age groups, Step Into Art programs actively engage students with great works of art and provide new opportunities for creative expression through art-making and writing.
